25th Anniversary of Tetris

This week marked the launch of Bing!, the search engine that seemed to be Microsoft’s way of saying “your move, Google.” This logo was Google’s response. Checkmate.

Google logos like this are the reason people like us get into the Logo Analysis field. Simply put, it’s a brilliant concept with a flawless execution. The highlighting and shadowing of the individual squares is perfect, the word “Google” itself is legible without being central to the message.

What really strikes me about this Logo is the green piece falling into place to form the “l”. It just works on so many levels: its overtly phallic nature represents sexual conquest and power. Within the context of a Tetris game, it represents mankind’s victory over machine. And within the context of the current Google-Microsoft war, the green piece is a final dagger into Bing’s infant heart.

This logo doesn’t just make me proud to be a Googler. It doesn’t just make me proud to be a Tetris fanatic. It makes me proud to be a part of the human race.

Today’s Rating: GOOGLE (out of a possible GOOGLE)
